I'm 38 years old, I was born and raised in Prince George and graduated from Prince George Secondary School. I have studied Occupational Health and Safety (OHS for short) at both the British Columbia Institute of Technology and the University of Northern British Columbia, earning my OHS Practitioner Certification from the latter. I work as a Territory Account Manager for a large global manufacturer of industrial safety products, equipment and tools. My job takes me all over Northern BC, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories where I work with large infrastructure companies and heavy industry. I help identify products and systems required by such companies to ensure they are meeting their legal requirements and utilizing industry best practices. I also provide subsequent product training and support to help ensure safe and productive workplaces. Some projects I am currently involved in include the Site C Clean Energy Project in Fort Saint John, the LNG Canada Project in Kitimat, and the Coastal Gaslink & Trans-Mountain Pipeline Projects in and around Prince George to name a few. I also work with a variety of mines, sawmills, pulpmills, railways, manufacturing plants, and other industry. I manage a network of approximately 60 industrial distributors located throughout my territory and am personally responsible for $6 Million in annual revenue.
Many of you may recognize me from the hockey rinks where I was once the guy many loved to hate. Anyone who attended Spruce King or Cougar games back in the heyday likely had at least a few cross words for me. I was the youngest official to be hired by the British Columbia Hockey League (Spruce King's League) at the age of 16. The following year I was the youngest official to be hired by the Western Hockey League (Cougar's League) at 17. I later became one of the highest ranked Officials in the province, earning my Hockey Canada Level 5 Certification. This certification made me eligible for high profile national and international assignments of which I was selected to work several. Some of these assignments include the inter-provincial Junior Championship called the Doyle Cup, the Canadian National Junior Championship called the Royal Bank Cup, and the Canadian Hockey League's Russia vs. Canada Super Series. I was the only official to be twice honored with Hockey Canada's "Most Deserving Official" award. While still an active on-ice official, I accepted a position with Hockey Canada as their "Supervisor of Officials" for Northern BC. In this role I helped mentor, coach, motivate and develop young officials with a goal of bridging aspiring officials from the minor hockey level to the junior and major junior levels. Some responsibilities of this position included organizing and leading on-ice training sessions, classroom training sessions, evaluating officials, ranking officials, and selecting officials for key assignments. I was also a BC Hockey "Master Course Conductor" and travelled the province instructing annual officiating clinics.
I have a great passion for music and enjoy all genres, though if you were to ask me my favorite I would definitely say Rock n Roll. I am a multi-instrumental musician and play the piano, bass, drums and guitar. Some may have seen me playing various venues around town with such bands as Sound Addiction, Fyre in the Hole and Miss Guided - just to name a few. I have also travelled around Western Canada playing various casinos, bars, halls, as well as many private and public events. I have a large music studio in my home where I write, compose and record original material. Music remains one of my greatest passions and favorite pastimes.
When my schedule was more forgiving, I volunteered two winter seasons for the PG Council of Seniors. I did everything from shovel off roofs & decks, snow-blow driveways, and even made pathways for senior's small dogs. It was an extremely rewarding experience and some of the people I met keep in touch to this day.
I have volunteered my band for countless fundraisers such as STKRSS grad fundraiser and the relay for life.
I regularly volunteer for PG All Star Cheer where I set up stage lights for their various performances. If you are naive like I was and think cheerleading is just kids waving pom-poms, you will be shocked! These kids are incredible athletes!
I am a proud supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion and for the last 5 years have consistently made annual contributions to their Military Service Recognition Campaign - "Honoring the Veterans of British Columbia and the Yukon"
I have also been lucky enough, with support from my employer, to make several donations of safety products to deserving local organizations. This includes Health Canada approved face shields to the St. Vincent De Paul Society during the height of the covid pandemic, as well as high visibility workwear to the volunteers who work tirelessly to bring us our beloved ice oval.
